Welcome to the
AGRoECOlogical FARMing Project
AGRECOFARM is the new Project financed by the Erasmus+ Programme Key Action 2 (KA2) – Cooperation among organizations and institutions Capacity Building in the field of Higher Education (CBHE) Strand 2: Partnerships for Transformation in Higher Education.
Core idea of the AGRECOFARM Project
Development of new curricula and a MSc program that integrates in a practical way the latest developments of applied research in agroecological techniques for sustainable agricultural productions.
The mission
Contribute to the enhancement of the capacity of African partner universities, transforming them into Knowledge Hubs, capable of consolidating knowledge, transferring expertise and disseminating skills, relevant for increasing agricultural activities in a sustainable, inclusive and resilient way in their territories, serving their local, national and regional communities.
Western Africa’s horticulture and forests face challenges like low soil fertility, nutrient deficiency, weed pressure, irrigation system salination, and pest and disease.
Agroecology practices can help overcome these issues and optimize nutrient and carbon balances, improving soil fertility, aggregate stability, water holding capacity, organic matter, nutrient availability, and pH regulation.
The farming system needs a comprehensive resetting, incorporating animal manure management, farmyard manure, slurry, green manure mulch, forage legumes, and liming to improve crop yield and address challenges like soil erosion, climate change, and biodiversity loss.
Aim of this project is to improve the quality of High education and enhance its relevance with labor market & society providing also, the agricultural stakeholders with knowledge, skills and competencies in the field of agroecological approaches and advanced technology in the agricultural systems.
